10th Plenary Meeting of the Steering Committee on the Rights of the Child of the Council of Europe
Today marks the end of the 10th Plenary Meeting of the Steering Committee on the Rights of the Child (CDENF) of the Council of Europe, which has been held in Strasbourg since Tuesday.
Representatives from all the Member States of this international organisation are gathered, with Portugal represented by Célia Chamiça, member of the International Relations Team of the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth (CNPDPCJ), who participates with the national position drawn up on the basis of the contributions gathered from various CNPDPCJ teams and entities represented in the National Council of the National Commission.
In a joint session with the European Committee for Judicial Cooperation (CDCJ), the CDENF and the CDCJ endorsed two important documents, which resulted from four years of articulated work between both Committees: the proposal for a Recommendation on the protection of the best interests of the child in reception procedures and the related Explanatory Memorandum. The documents will now be submitted for discussion and vote by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The CDENF and the CDCJ also approved tools to implement the protection of the best interests of the child - one relating to reception procedures and the other to parental separation procedures.
Concept notes and thematic guidance notes were approved at the meeting, including the one on safeguarding children from the risks of access to pornographic content. online, as well as the one focusing on the future action of CDENF with a view to the feasibility, timeliness and relevance of developing a tool to assess the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Rights of the Child.
