The CNPDPCJ International Relations Team was created in September 2017, in order to ensure the development of the actions necessary for the exercise of the competences of the National Commission at European and international level, contributing to strengthen the alignment of its positioning and its action with best practices and benchmarks.

To this end, it has been entrusted with a number of responsibilities, including:

Ensure the preparation of opinions and contributions to respond to requests concerning the rights of children and young people or matters that may have an impact on them, originating in the European Union, in International Organizations or other European and international entities, including academic institutions and non-governmental organizations;

Ensure specialized technical information on children and youth, whenever requested by guardianship, on the rights of the child and the promotion and protection of them, in particular in the framework of European or international evaluations to Portugal, arising from its attachment to the country as a State Party to Conventions, Protocols and other international instruments, including in the context of the United Nations and the Council of Europe;

- whenever strategic and feasible, propose and submit applications from the CNPDPCJ for European and international funding, with a view to developing bilateral, European or international projects and initiatives;

Promote partnerships and/or cooperation projects with European and international counterparts and with International Organizations, aiming at the exchange of knowledge, information, documentation, common challenges, good practices and instrumental and/or training resources in the field of children and youth;

- Promote the European and international dissemination of the Portuguese system for the promotion of the rights and protection of children and young people, namely: the CNPDPCJ; CPCJ; the work of the CPCJ in promoting and protecting the rights of children and young people in Portugal and abroad, under the Hague Convention of 19 October 1996, the EU Regulations and the Bilateral Agreements and Protocols established between Portugal and other countries covering this aspect;

Represent the CNPDPCJ in national, bilateral, European and international meetings and forums relevant to the National Commission, taking place in Portugal and abroad;

Propose the edition and / or acquisition of scientific and technical material of international scope, in the area of childhood and youth, in articulation with other organic units of CNPDPCJ.
