One of the fundamental rights of children and young people concerns participation or involvement in decisions about community life in general and about the decisions that are made in particular. Within the latter aspect, decisions on cases directly involving the child and the young person (court proceedings, divorce or parental separation in custody matters) should always take into account their opinion, regardless of age. The hearing of the child/young person is a right and not a duty, which means that there is a right to choose whether or not to speak. In this section you will find references to this theme, the separation of caregivers and aspects to be taken into account for the full participation of children and young people.
